Derek (centre) with Stuart and Doods
Derek Southgate was the first to admit that he was not
the youngest member of the side.
He had to regulate his dancing carefully, but joined in frequently and played
a full part in the side.
It is giving away no secrets to reveal that, in 1997, we danced to celebrate his official retirement. He was also one of the
members who was a long-time resident of the village, unlike some of us newcomers who haved lived here less than 20 years.
As Bagman, Derek played that all-important part in our side of dealing with bookings and correspondence, a task he carried out with ruthless efficiency.
