Little Egypt's Boxing Day - 2008

The Focus of the Tradition - The Dance

We'd put up posters

around the village announcing the change of venue, but how many people would turn up?
Boxing Day normally brings out the crowds but would they go the extra half mile? We needn't have worried.

Despite our late arrival there were loads of people waiting in the Angel car park - mainly because the pub was full to bursting.

Kevin was seen heaving empty beer kegs out the back door and calling for spare glasses as he was running out.

With numb hands but warm insides thanks to Bomber County (4.8% abv) we executed a number of perfectly performed dances.

Just look at the pictures for examples of straight lines, coordinated sticking and exemplary whites.

We received several requests from certain members of the audience that we end with Fanny Frail.
They're getting to know our repertoire!

John Aldous was drafted in to instruct our guest dancers and they didn't let us down, beating the men's sticks with wicked vigour and evil grins.

A goodly crowd  and a goodly surface
Perfection in all respects ...er ...  And with vim and vigour
I said 'Look at my STICK'  We've got 'em on the run, lads
I taught this lot all they know, you know.  But if they'd known this, they'd have stuck to Line Dancing

As one dance finished another began - the Flamenco Dancers took the stage with some spirited hand clapping, foot stomping and stylish skirt swirling.

A delight to behold.

We'll show these men a thing or two about dancing ...  For example, I bet they never click their castanets
