Little Egypt On Tour: Norfolk 2007

- in which we travelled by steam and Routemaster and made some new friends -

Saturday 2 June - it must be Sheringham.

10 a.m. and we gathered at the North Norfolk Railway's terminus. We were in Horkey gear as the day was likely to be an oily smuts sort of affair.

The train pulled in hauled by Battle of Britain Class 34081 "92 Squadron".

Neville blew his whistle to gather the men and was immediately sought out by the Station Master. "There's only one whistle on this station and it's mine".

We decided to board the train quietly.

First stop was Weybourne where we alighted for the first dancing of the day.

It all seemed perfectly normal while the train was waiting at the platform but once its five minute stopover was finished and it pulled out, those tracks seemed an awful long way down for back-to-backs and heys.

Undaunted, and several dances later, we set off for our first pub of the day which was waiting at the end of a twenty minute walk into the village.

The Ship Inn was not outstandingly welcoming. "Would you move away from the bar when you've got your drinks then I can see who's waiting. You all look the same to me".

The garden was nice 'though and we did a bit of gravel dancing to entertain the staff before returning to Weybourne station.

I'm glad I remembered my Lynx.
