Little Egypt On Tour: Norfolk 2007- in which we maintain our traditon of venturing into distant and strange parts - |
||
The weather forecast had been predicting a miserable and wet weekend but Friday 1 June dawned warm and sunny as the men, and in some cases their partners, gathered in the Black Lion car park for a last minute briefing from the Squire. Two hours later we were in North Norfolk. First stop, the Jolly Sailors at Brancaster Staithe. This hostelry was chosen because it had its own brewery and we weren't disappointed by the ales on offer. Important matters were discussed, like who was eating what in the chosen evening restaurant, then it was a quick trip into Burnham Thorpe for a light - or not so light - lunch at the Lord Nelson. Appetites satisfied we set off for Cromer and our hotel, the Virginia Court. A quick change into whites and, belled up, we walked through the sea mist to dance on Cromer Pier. The dancing was spectacular when you could see it.The pier wasn't exactly crowded with tourists but those who were there showed their appreciation in the usual way. Returning to our hotel by way of the Red Lion, we met the couple who were to marry the next day. Would we dance at their reception? Of course we would. But we had an evening to deal with yet.
