Boxing Day 2006:
Why We're Here

Brian "Baggie" Stephens has provided this account of events at the Morris Men of Little Egypt's Spiritual Home, the Black Lion. I present it almost entirely unedited

Jane (wife of Simon/Graham) kindly took some photos for the record.
A fine set of dances was performed including Sweet Jenny Jones, Getting Upstairs, the Vandals of Lower Glemsford, Jenny Lind and of course Ring O' Bells.
For the first time in aeons we also danced Akenfield, and having practised for three consecutive Tuesdays it was bl**dy good, despite some dangerous potholes in the Black Lion car park putting a bit of southerly list on the Circle of Four.

Boxing Day is of course Graham's birthday and this year he celebrated by breaking his new "messaging belt" (don't ask) mid-dance resulting in a serious drooping of the old drawers.
New man Mike "volunteered" to join in several dances, each of which was announced to the crowd so that they could watch out for any minor mistakes, and take the heat off the rest of us.
Mike is the one without bells...

An innovation this year was the introduction to Jenny Lind of a couple of new moves - the "Unicyclist Tops Down" and the "Juggling Half Gyp" from a couple of youngsters plucked out of the audience.
The crowd seemed to like it anyway and it gave us a chance to take a couple of extra glugs of Ian's finest.

Must have been Squire's punch. I think I'm hallucinating  Just as well it's only a one stick dance.
All my own teeth still  And my own gut - totally unenhanced
Altogether now  Who's flashing?
Can you hear me?  Where's Trevor?

After the dancing, other entertainments took place, including the Annual Glemsford/Little Egypt/Stour Valley Mummers play, and the Little Andalucia Flamenco troupe, with and without music.
Photos and further details of these will follow.
