Little Egypt in Ireland: 2005

On Thursday, the rest of the side flew in - some via Cork, one or two via Shannon - and the intensive itinerary took over.

Thursday evening began with a very spectacular coach ride, from our bases in the attractive resort town of Kenmare, to Allihies, on the Ring of Beara, by way of Healy's Pass.

The long and winding road

And the hills go on forever

If anything, the journey was even more exhilarating than these photographs suggest. Tommy the Coach (Driver) did a marvellous job in negotiating all these bends and inclines.
In true MMLE style, when we reached the pass, we insisted on dancing.
And posing.

Over the hills and far away
The hills are alive with the sound of sticking

We keep ourselves amused
Smile

Although the weather was a little unkind, it really was a special setting in which to dance.

Long crossovers could be said to threaten life and limb in a most unexpected way.

Manoeuvring the orchestra into an appropriate postion also called for a certain amount of derring do.
Never were the words of "Meet On The Ledge" more keenly understood.

Don't look down
Your bellows are drooping

Blown off this mountain in the wind
I wandered lonely as a cloud

It is very strange that, wherever Little Egypt choose to dance for their own amusement, they tend to attract a crowd.

Despite the fact that this was, effectively, the top of a lonely Irish mountain, no sooner had the orchestra finished their overture than the first punters turned up to watch.

Included in the crowd were the occupants of an English car.

Don't step backwards
Why don't we do it in the road?

Lines!
I don't believe it.

The side's terpsichorean ambitions thus sated, we then moved on to Allihies for dinner and dancing. ...

On to Allihies
