More From Spain
I am very grateful to Jackie and her fellow-dancers for sending me the photographs, and some explanatory notes.
"Jackie, Lynn, Sharon and I perfomed the Sevillanas, which is more of a southern Spanish folk dance usually done with a partner.
As the name implies, it originated in Seville.
The other dance, where Pauline and Dee joined us, is called a Tangos and is much more 'Flamenco' and quite raunchy. It involves a lot more swaying of hips and throwing around of skirts.
We danced it in a group, but, like much flamenco, it is often danced as a solo.
Flamenco is a passionate dance form and is always performed with 'attitude' and, as everybody knows, one of the most important aspects of flamenco dance is the footwork. Lynn's husband Roy did us proud by making us a fantastic floor to make plenty of noise on.
As ever, the most important rule for the day was ENJOY YOURSELVES! We certainly did.
The 'Little Spain' flamenco group meets once a week and newcomers will be welcomed."
Anyone interested in joining can ring Jackie on 282815, or email her on through any of the addresses on the site.
I will forward them. No previous experience necessary!
